Editing number fields
You will often encounter a picture similar to what you see below in examples and exercises.
What you see is an image of a green board with two numbers written on it in yellow chalk.
One of the numbers is highlighted with a box with a deeper green color than the green board.
The other number is not highlighted.
-
How do I know if a number field can be edited (changed)?
-
A number can be changed if it is highlighted with a deep green box on the chalkboard.
Highlighting is the way that Eureka! tells you that a field can be edited.
-
A number cannot be edited if it is not highlighted on the chalkboard.
-
How do I change the complete number in the field?
-
If you want to change the complete number you see in the highlighted box, do the following:
-
Move the mouse cursor into the highlight box.
-
Double click the left mouse button. The highlighting should change to blue.
-
Type in the first digit of the new number.
This digit should replace the original number.
A flashing vertical cursor should appear to the
right of the digit you typed.
-
Continue to type digits as needed if necessary.
The digits will appear in sequence to the right
of the original digit.
-
When you have entered the desired number, you are finished.
There is no need to press ENTER on the keyboard.
Eureka!
does the rest.
-
How do I change just a few digits of the number?
-
If you want to change or delete a few digits, do the following:
-
Move the mouse cursor into the highlighted box and position
it to the left
or right of the digits you want to change.
-
Press the left mouse button and drag the cursor across the
digits you want to change.
The highlighting behind the selected digits should change to blue.
-
Type in the new digits you want or press DEL on the
keyboard to remove the selected digits.
-
Again, there is no need to press ENTER on the keyboard.
-
What happens if I type a character that does not belong in a number?
-
Eureka!
will not accept an incorrect character.
If the character you type does not immediately appear in the field then it
needs to be retyped.
-
Be careful if you want to enter a negative number. A minus sign will be
accepted if it is the first character of the field but not otherwise.
You should practice editing the number field until you feel skilled at it.
